Clothes as Semaphores

March 15, 2022 Lots of Luxe Fashion

We all know that clothes are more than clothes.

Yes, they protect you from the elements, keep you warm and dry.

But, as you also know, clothes are semaphores (apparatus to create a visual signal) for so much more. Fashion, the prevailing style of dress at any particular time, is used as messages and symbols that we all decode in an effort to understand who and what we are seeing. If you see a homeless person shuffling down the street in rags, you will interpret her differently from a woman wearing a smart, on-trend dress with hose and heels.

If a woman is carrying a (genuine) Louis Vuitton purse, it means she has a high degree of disposable income and wants to spend it on the best. A pair of jeans speaks a different but equally clear message. Casual, laid back, comfortable (except when there’s a designer label on them). A woman in pearls is seen and decoded differently than one in Goth makeup and dagger earrings. The woman with pearls is seen as a classic, traditional dresser with style. The Goth woman is seen as dark, counterculture, and a little scary.

What we choose to wear reflects how we see the world and how we want the world to see us. Whether it’s as someone cool and powerful who keeps up with all the trends, or as a street-style type who joins a march with her political beliefs emblazoned on her T-shirt.

Obviously, clothing codes are tied to historical fluctuations so what we thought was great last year now looks outdated. But the overriding power of fashion is that it is dual and opposite in nature: it symbolizes class and socio-economic status – dividing us into social groups – but it also somehow unites us because everyone, high or low, wears clothes.

Because clothing is a matter of taste and the ultimate in personal choice and is irrevocably tied to our need to express our individuality, it tells a story and it’s that story we all need to consider when we’re figuring out our own personal style. Because they are right next to our skin, clothes, faster than anything else, tell the story of who we are – or want to be.

Let’s face it, we all judge people by the way they dress, what house they live in and what car they drive. We shouldn’t, but we do it automatically, and that’s why what you wear matters. Each piece means something, and I believe it’s important to figure out what that is and what you want to say.

And color matters, too.  Black speaks to minimalism and is an anti-color that gives people options. Blue is much more open, red might indicate an extrovert, and pink is the most romantic of colors on the spectrum. And of course, it’s essential to be aware of the meanings of particular colors, which vary a lot between different cultures. The late Vogue editor Diana Vreeland, for instance, once proclaimed, “Pink is the navy blue of India.”

At Lots of Luxe, our stylists can help you define and refine your personal look and ensure that what you wear will give the right impression to the right person. We can guide you on what trends work for you and help you choose clothing that truly reflects who you are. We love helping women delineate their wardrobe needs and look forward to working with you in the future.

Pantone Color of the Year – Very Peri

January 3, 2022 Lots of Luxe Color, Fashion

After two years filled with unrelenting uncertainty and challenges, is optimism something we can regain? The folks at Pantone think so. Living in transitional and transformative times as we are, between isolation and normalcy, virtual and real, sameness and difference, the color authority’s cheerful color of the year for 2022 speaks to rebirth and vibrancy and adds drama to anyone’s wardrobe. Very Peri, a pulsating, purplish periwinkle blue with violet/red undertones, is the first shade that the company has ever created and encapsulates, it says, the uncertainty, cautious hopefulness and newness of our moment in which we’re all reimagining our futures and searching for a fresh start. The really good news is that the appealing springtime color is universally flattering for all skin tones because it’s a balance between cool and warm.

How to Wear Periwinkle

Periwinkle was all over the spring/summer runways in Europe (but not New York), from a short cape dress at Valentino to a long overcoat at Balenciaga, tailored pants at Saint Laurent and romantic ruffled dresses at Alberta Ferretti. It’s even showing up on bicycles, sneakers, KitchenAid mixers and sweat pants.

And yes, the color is bright, but that’s no cause for concern, even if you’re someone who usually favors neutral and muted palettes and doesn’t experiment much with color. A little of the hue goes a long way and you don’t have to wear it from head to toe. (None of us wants to look like a popsicle!) You can get a dash of periwinkle with accessories: earrings, sandals or a soft, silky scarf. And if you like the color but are unsure how to style it, simply start by pairing it with black. A textured periwinkle crochet, or popcorn-stitch cashmere sweater over some black pants looks great. (And Periwinkle also looks fabulous with jeans!) When worn with white, periwinkle dazzles. And if color is still a little too bright for you, you can always confine it to the lower half of your body and wear it as pants and skirts.

Colors That Go Best With Periwinkle

On the color wheel, yellow is the complement of violet and blue-violet which means citrus, sunflower and gold shades contrast nicely. White, salmon and dark blue look the best with periwinkle but the color also goes with pink, beige, turquoise, green, apricot and other blue hues. For shoes, try some black patent leather, silver, beige or pewter. And for a dash of glam, you could opt for a sandal style with glitter.

Help is at Hand

Of course, you are a woman who already knows what you like to wear and what works for you. And trends are just that, trends. Only you know how your wardrobe should fit your lifestyle and all the subtle details involved in getting into clothing you like – and which likes you.

When it comes to finding assistance to build the wardrobe you’ve always dreamed of, Lots of Luxe is here to help guide you through all your styling needs. We offer high quality clothing that can fit any need you may have.  We look forward to working with you on what you’ll be wearing this spring/summer.

Virtual consultations are always available.

Ask Your Personal Stylist: How do I wear high-waisted pants?

March 16, 2021 Lots of Luxe Fashion, Fashion Tips

You’ve asked, I’m answering! High-waisted pants are incredibly comfortable — and stylish. Here’s how to wear them to flatter your body.

In the battle between high-waisted pants and low-rise pants, high-waisted pants are (thankfully) plentiful this year! Women tend to love high-waisted pants for their versatility, comfort, and their tendency to flatter figures.

This season, Carlisle and Etcetera are featuring several styles of high-waisted bottoms. Before you browse, read on to find out how to choose the perfect style and make these functional pants work for your lifestyle.

Who Can Wear High-Waisted Pants?

Most everyone can so give them a shot! High-waisted pants are universally flattering, so no matter what body shape you have, you can find a high-waisted pair of pants or jeans that look great on you. High-waisted pants disguise love handles and never create a muffin top, unlike low-rise denim that can leave you feeling less covered up. It is any wonder that high-waisted pants are in high demand this season?

Denim is always a staple, and it’s good to have several styles in your wardrobe. While many of us are living in leisurewear, why not trade in sweatpants for comfortable and figure-flattering high-waisted jeans?

High-waisted pants are a go-to look all year. By giving you a well-balanced and flattering silhouette, they will quickly become your new favorite pants for everyday wear.

How Can I Wear High-Waisted Pants?

First, you’ll want to wear your high-waisted pants nearest your natural waistline, at the narrowest part of your midriff. This will ensure a flattering fit. Second, ensure a proper hem length for your body. If you choose straight or flared high-waisted pants, look for hemlines that reach down to your toes. If you choose skinny high-waisted pants, the hem should sit right at the ankles.

High-waisted pants look best with a tucked-in top to not only show off the high-waisted style but to flatter your figure as well. Nearly any type of top will work well with high-waisted pants, with a few exceptions. Button-down blouses, long-sleeve tops, or tanks, basic t-shirts can be tucked into your high-waisted pants.

High-waisted pants come in a variety of styles from boyfriend jeans to tailored skinny pants. Some variations include wide-leg, straight-leg, or flares. Wearing high-waisted pants can go from laidback and comfortable at home to a chic going out look.

You can take your pick of heels, boots, sneakers, or sandals with your high-waisted pants. These pants are versatile enough to be paired with any kind of footwear.

What to Avoid

Overly frilly, blousy tops can be unflattering with high-waisted pants. Too much fabric can weigh you down or be too bulky and you’ll risk masking your shape. With the extra fabric of high-waisted pants, stick to more form-fitting tops that are easily tucked in or knotted to the side.

Bulky, short jackets are also not likely to flatter when wearing high-waisted pants, as they can create a boxy look by making the waist appear wider. What’s more, wearing high-waisted pants can help you achieve an hourglass silhouette, which will be hidden with a jacket that’s too big.

Pants During the Pandemic

February 25, 2021 Lots of Luxe Fashion

It’s time to get dressed up again!

Real pants have literally been closeted since 2020, but pants are making a comeback in 2021. Since the onset of the pandemic, you’ve probably been living in leggings, sweatpants, or yoga pants daily, thinking, “will I ever wear dress pants or jeans again?”

If you look back into time, the historical evolution of fashion during global hardships has been quite interesting. After WWI, women began to wear pants when they were called to enter the workforce. After the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918, began the Roaring 20s, which, was an iconic, liberating era in fashion. Now, we can relate to the flappers who just wanted to dress to the nines for a decadent night on the town after a period of being homebound!

Loungewear is our new normal, but what if we started getting dressed up again? Perhaps we’d feel better, more ourselves, or more productive.

Now, I don’t mean wearing anything uncomfortable at home. I’m talking about comfortable pants or denim that you look good in and feel good in.

  • Getting dressed and putting on real pants might make Zoom calls at home feel more professional and productive.
  • Getting dressed and feeling good can boost your spirits.
  • Wearing pants instead of leggings to the grocery store might promote a sense of normalcy.

The good news is, there are tons of comfy, soft pants that you can wear during the pandemic and start feeling really great! The following can be dressed up or kept casual. Pair these with cozy sweaters, chic blouses, or basic tees.

Satin Pants

Luxurious-feeling satin pants are perfect for staying home or going out. Comfortable, soft, and trendy, satin pants can be worn casually or jazzed up. Choose a pair with ankle ties so you can show off your footwear, too.

Stretchy Denim

Denim that stretches is the best of both worlds: the classic look of denim and the forgiving comfort of pants that stretch. Stretchy denim is one of the best ways to find jeans that fit like a glove, too. The stretchy material is perfect for cinching your waist and molding to your body while remaining suitable for staying home on the couch.

Pull-On Stretch Pants

Upgrade your yoga pants with pull-on stretch pants! Sleek stretch pants look professional, not to mention slimming, and you won’t be trading in any comfort. Look perfectly polished while you stay totally cozy.

Sleek Leggings

Leggings that look like pants are a chic way to take your quarantine look up a notch while remaining incredibly comfortable. These leggings are a classic wardrobe staple for at home or in the office.

Personal Styling For Busy Women

Have you neglected yourself lately? Busy women like you are struggling to juggle everything right now. Working from home, keeping up with the kids’ online schooling, and trying to create a balance while your family is largely stuck at home.

We take a backseat often, I know. But, there’s a way to indulge yourself in a beautiful wardrobe that makes you feel good without any compromise of time or energy.

The stylists at Lots of Luxe are here to help make that happen for you and with ease. Whether you choose to shop online or make a one-on-one virtual personal styling appointment, we’re available with style advice to ensure you get only what you need, what fits your personal style, and your budget.

Fashion Trends that Can’t be Ignored

February 3, 2021 Lots of Luxe Fashion, Trends

We love fashion and if you love fashion there is always interest and curiosity around the latest fashion trends. Here at Lots of Luxe, we like to focus on wearable trends. Trends that make sense for our personal style and wardrobe. In this blog post, we’re sharing some lovely fashion trends that are wearable and perfect for these early months of 2021.

Structured Bags

Structured handbags, specifically top-handle bags are trending. Elegant, polished structured bags add a touch of refinement to any of your looks. Dome satchels or ring-handled bags are a classic trend, really these don’t go out of style. For an extra fashionable touch, tie a delicate silk scarf to your structured bag and nail two trends at once.

Silky Scarves

Silk scarves, bandanas, and wraps are one chic trend. Use them however you wish, in your hair, around your handbag, or around your neck. Beautiful neutrals look wonderful when paired with a patterned scarf or wrap.

Chunky Chokers

If you love the look of chunky jewelry, you can find it everywhere now. Chunky necklaces, chokers, and earrings, especially gold, are very big. Chunky chains can give any outfit an edge, and chains can be incorporated into your look several different ways. If statement necklaces aren’t your thing, you can enjoy this trend by wearing a chain belt or even a chain-embellished handbag.

Elegant Elbow-Length Gloves

Nothing exudes elegance more than elbow-length, or “opera” gloves. If you love this trend and have been just dying to break out your fanciest pair, these are hot! Many fashion trends this year have been “borrowed” from decades past, including this comeback. If you happen to be attending a formal event (with social distancing built in, of course), opera gloves can be paired with a stately dress.

Riding Boots

It’s time to break out the boots! Playing into the western inspiration trends that we saw in the fall collections are riding boots. Boots of all kinds are a welcome fall and winter trend for many of us. This year, relatively flat-heeled, up to the knee boots are very popular. This looks sharp with a pair of skinny jeans or leggings. But, really, wear any of your favorite boots, you just can’t go wrong with a classic pair of boots.

Western-Inspired Accents

Along with riding boots, which have really turned into a fall/winter staple, other equestrian-inspired looks seem to be everywhere. You’ll see western-influenced belts, hats, and boots everywhere. From brimmed hats to fancy belt buckles to fringe, this trend can be one to add to your already classic neutrals.

Slim-Silhouette Sunglasses

Tiny sunglasses are everywhere right now, thanks to many models and celebrities bringing in the trend. Thin oval, rectangle, and cat-eye lenses are options if you want to try out this trend. Of course, if you don’t think thin frames suit your face, stick with the sunglasses you love.

Statement Earrings

Bold statement earrings are big, as well. If small, dainty studs are more your thing, don’t be afraid to try chunkier dangles. You’ll tend to see a lot of oversized pearls and gems in many statement earrings now and into the new year. Any kind of statement jewelry can really make an outfit pop.

Simple Suits

Let it be simple! Sometimes, the most stunning looks are the most simple. Chic suit basics are classic and always in style. Mix and match neutral polished blazers, collared shirts, turtlenecks, and bottoms for easy outfit options. Along with the simple suit trend, is to wear a tonal (solid color from head-to-toe) simple suit. Tonal dressing doesn’t mean all pieces have to be the exact same color, but they do need to be in the same “color family” and agreeable together. Check out what all the former FLOTUS wore to President Biden’s inauguration.  Simple (except for current FLOTUS) tonal suiting.

Polished Patterns

To add some flair to your camel, cream, ivory, or black fall neutrals, add some of these season’s edgy patterns. Mixing your dreamy neutrals with classic tweed, tortoise, jacquard, or even animal print is a no-fail look that is always in style.

Busy Women Can Stay Up-To-Date on Trends, Too

Trendy clothes are fun and they can be a way to experiment with new looks.

If you would like to incorporate trending pieces into your wardrobe each season, the best way to stay up to date without all the fuss is to get a personal stylist on your side.

Keep your wardrobe fresh while staying as trendy or as classic as you like. Personal styling is all about you and your wardrobe wishes. Want to see how it works? Get in touch with a stylist to be in the know!

A Closet Love Affair: How to Love Every Piece of Clothing in Your Closet

June 18, 2020 Lots of Luxe Fashion, Fashion Tips, Personal Stylist, Wardrobe

Do you have that feeling that you have nothing to wear but your closet is jam-packed with clothes? That feeling comes from not loving everything you have. It’s probably safe to say that most of your clothes aren’t your favorite. There are ways to turn that around and finally know what it feels like to love stepping into your closet to pick out an outfit.

We all know that incredible feeling when we put on a really special outfit. When you try it on and it’s perfect. You get so excited to wear it out for the first time. When you do, you feel stunning and attract tons of compliments.

Imagine having that feeling every day?

It’s so important to adore every piece of clothing in your closet. When you love everything in your closet, getting dressed is a breeze. Everything fits, you feel great in everything, and outfits are easy to create. You will never feel like you have nothing to wear when you love everything!

It’s time to say goodbye to anything that’s “just okay.” Life’s too short to wear anything that doesn’t make you feel great.

Here’s a quick guide to getting the wardrobe you want by creating a closet that you love.

Take a minimalistic approach

First things first: starting a wardrobe of all lovely things doesn’t start with a shopping spree, it starts with a purge. If you’re on a journey to love every piece of clothing in your closet, you’re about to learn that you probably love only a fraction of the things you currently have. It sounds almost awful to have fewer clothes. Who would want less?! But, here’s the thing: It’s more about quality over quantity. It doesn’t mean you’ll have less than you need or want, but it’s about having less clutter and fewer pieces of clothing that you don’t absolutely love. When you embrace the art of minimalism, you will only invest in pieces you love and get rid of anything that “doesn’t spark joy”, as Marie Kondo would say.

So begin taking inventory of what you have and get serious about donating or tossing anything that just isn’t quite right. If it’s old, worn-out, the wrong color, doesn’t fit (or flatter) it goes!, And don’t hold onto things out of guilt. Just because you spent money on an item and maybe didn’t wear it, doesn’t mean you have to keep it. Donations are a great way to not feel that guilt! When purging, remember, if you don’t love it, you won’t wear it.

Ponder your daily needs

It’s important to create a wardrobe that caters to your lifestyle. A practical, sustainable closet can be yours when you think about who you are, what you do, and what your wardrobe goals are. Where you live and what you do are definitely two determining factors when it comes to creating the perfect daily wardrobe with pieces that you love. Being realistic about your lifestyle can help you determine what to pack your closet with. Ruthlessly get rid of things that don’t fit, anything that doesn’t suit your lifestyle, and anything you don’t love.

When everything in your wardrobe fits your lifestyle, it’s easy to love everything! If your wardrobe is cluttered with blazers and pantsuits that you haven’t worn in years because you currently work from home, maybe it’s time to purge! If you don’t wear it, make room for what you’ll love and wear all the time.

The quickest way to a closet love affair…

What’s the secret to loving your closet? It’s having a personal stylist. If you’re feeling ambivalent about your wardrobe, it’s time to change that! That’s where a personal shopper and wardrobe stylist comes in.

A personal shopper takes the guesswork out of picking out clothes you’ll love. With a personal shopper and a wardrobe stylist, you can get the assistance you need to purge anything you don’t love, and only keep everything that suits your lifestyle, plus you can:

  1. Pick a color palette, which makes creating flattering outfits so simple.
  2. Define your personal style, which boosts your confidence and individuality.
  3. Organize what you already have, toss what needs to go, and fill in the blanks you’ve been missing.

You’ll save time, save money, and learn how you can maintain a closet full of clothes you absolutely love. Life is simpler when you don’t have to worry about what to wear.

If you’re ready to love everything in your closet, schedule a consultation to learn more about working with a personal wardrobe stylist. We’re ready to help you love everything in your closet.

What’s Your Power Color?

May 28, 2020 Lots of Luxe Color, Fashion, Personal Stylist, Style Tips, Wardrobe

Colors have the power to make us feel emotions, and it’s truly fascinating!

There is psychology in how we perceive colors and it’s used everywhere, from interior design to advertising, and yes, you can use it to your advantage in how you dress! It’s true, colors can affect our spending habits, appetite, stress level, and more.

So, the next time you dress, imagine the feelings you will provoke when you step out into the world. I encourage you to find a power color or two!

Finding your signature power color can help you establish your personal style, increase confidence, and help you influence how others see you personally or professionally.

While some say that black makes them feel powerful, sophisticated, confident and the like, this blog will steer away from all neutrals. Neutrals like black won’t stand out in a crowd and finding your power color is definitely about confidently standing out, so I will specifically focus on bright colors.

Red

Wear red if you want to feel: Passionate, lively, ambitious, sexy, motivated, or in charge.

This ultimate power color stimulates emotions like strength, determination, and desire. Red is associated with love, energy, passion, and action. Some people shy away from red because it’s a color that can’t go unnoticed! Red is such a powerful color that the sight of it raises blood pressure, increases the metabolism, and boosts breathing rates.

Not only does red automatically put you in the spotlight, but it also looks good on everyone. Red is a universally flattering color, regardless of skin tone or hair color. So, if you don’t frequently experiment with wearing red, try it out for yourself.

Power it up: Red is one of a few colors that stands on its own and doesn’t need any help! If you want to wear it as a power color go for crimson, ruby, or cherry red, instead of something muted like burgundy. If you don’t usually rock red, try just some red accessories or red lipstick to get noticed.

Blue

Wear blue if you want to feel: Confident, wise, relaxed, smart, stable, or sincere.

Blue is the power color of corporate America because it’s linked to stability, intellect, precision, and leadership. It’s often named as the best color to wear to an interview, as it’s a sign of sincerity and devotion. Blue is associated with productivity and is likely to be used to decorate offices and studies. This color is also calming and steady. The sky and ocean are blue, which we usually connect with tranquility.

Wearing blue is non-threatening, yet it kindles feelings of someone who is a leader. Blue is the color to wear if you want to position yourself as an authority and be someone that people trust. It’s reliable, secure, and a sign of high intelligence.

Power it up: Wear royal blue, electric blue, or sapphire. While light blue is associated with peace, health, and softness, deep blues as a power color provoke influence and integrity.

Pink

Wear pink if you want to feel: Energetic, playful, feminine, compassionate, or hopeful.

Pink as a power color is positive and bright. In color psychology, pink is a sign of hope, love, and tenderness. Pink is seen as the most feminine color, and it’s almost impossible to not feel girly while wearing it, which is why it’s most often used for women’s events and charities.

Wearing pink brings on feelings of warmth, excitement, and energy. The color is cheery and has youthful vibes. When you want to feel vibrant, pink is the way to go!

Power it up: Choose brighter pinks like hot pink or magenta to wear pink as a power color, as light pinks are soft and nurturing. If pink isn’t a color you typically wear, balance this super feminine hue with charcoal or other dark colors.

Yellow

Wear yellow if you want to feel: Optimistic, happy, positive, or cheerful.

Is there a happier color than yellow? Yellow is the color of sunshine, the color we associate with fun, cheerfulness, and positivity. Yellow stands out from a crowd, much like red does, and it’s one color that can be seen from a distance, which is why taxis and buses are often yellow.

As a power color, yellow is received warmly by others and you’ll be seen in a positive light. Yellow increases mental activity, activates memory, encourages conversation, and builds confidence.

Power it up: Wear bright yellow tones, that signify the positives of yellow like clarity, confidence, and energy because the psychology of dull yellows can be seen as caution or sickness.

Purple

Wear purple if you want to feel: Luxurious, ambitious, regal, wise, or imaginative.

The psychology of purple combines fiery red with calm blue, and purple is somewhere in between. Often associated with royalty, purple elicits feelings of dignity and grandeur. Purple also inspires the imagination, deeper thoughts, spirituality, and fulfillment.

Wearing purple will affect the mind and body with uplifting emotions and introspection. As a power color, purple is both balancing and intense. Purple is the color of imagination and creativity.

Power it up: Purple is the kind of color that any shade of it can be a power color. Purple is almost always eye-catching, from deep gem hues to light purple. Light purples like lavender are rare in nature and also much rarer in clothing versus, something like light pink. Lavender is perceived as graceful, elegant, and can be used to identify wealth.

Power Up Your Closet with Color

Feeling powerful is a personal thing so I can’t say there is just one color that will do this for you, it’s your choice! We all have a color preference and feeling powerful will be affected by our confidence level and how good we feel in our clothes.

I hope you find your power color; wear it, feel it, own it!

A No-Fail Wedding Guest Style Guide for Her

April 15, 2020 Lots of Luxe Event, Fashion, Fashion Tips, How To, Style Tips

Weddings are exciting events to look forward to! Getting the invitation is a moving experience as you anticipate the big day with loved ones and friends. And then, the invitation addresses attire in two words that don’t even go together: Beach formal. What’s that even mean?

Before we decide exactly what to wear to a wedding, we have to decide how dressy to get. That’s where it gets tricky. What’s the difference between white tie and black tie? Black tie optional? What about an invitation that is vague and doesn’t mention a dress code?

Don’t worry, I have answers.

I’ve created a quick guide on wedding attire and what to wear, in all scenarios.

Quickly though, some very general rules:

  1. Women wear dresses and men wear suits.
  1. Women don’t wear white, in any form. This rule is an old rule that falls within the social norm to not outshine a bride on her wedding day. Unless the dress code is specifically noted in the invitation, e.g., a “white wedding” or “black and white attire only”, stay away from white dresses.
  1. Time of day matters. Day weddings and night weddings mean different things in terms of how formal to get. Day weddings are automatically less formal than night weddings. So, an early afternoon ceremony followed by a brunch reception means lighter colors, cocktail dresses, sundresses, informal maxi dresses, and the like. Evening weddings that go on into the night mean more formal dresses, longer lengths, deeper colors, fancier accessories, etc.

White Tie

This is the most formal dress code for a wedding, and it’s typically not too common but it happens. Be sure to wear a formal, full-length gown in rich hues or black. Most white tie events happen in the evening, so night wedding rules apply. Feel free to go all out on your ultra-formal look: Updos, makeup, and statement jewelry.

Black Tie

Black tie is more common and these weddings are less formal than a white tie event but still require proper dressing up. Wear a floor-length gown or formal cocktail dress. Depending on the venue, a formal jumpsuit can be appropriate as well.

Black Tie Optional

The name may be confusing, but it simply means that this event is a bit more toned down than a typical black tie event. You have some wiggle room here on how fancy to get. The black tie dress code is a good jumping off point: Wear a floor-length or cocktail dress.

Cocktail Attire

Cocktail attire is fancy but more laid back than black tie. These weddings are festive events where you are free to dress less formally than the previously mentioned style rules. Cocktail dresses or skirts and blouses are appropriate.

Beach Formal

Beach formal is an upscale beach wedding where flip flops are never allowed. Maxi dresses, knee-length sundresses, and wedge sandals all fall within the beach formal dress code. Remember that wedges and espadrilles are your best friend, as heels and sand never work. Makeup and hair should be polished, yet much more relaxed, like beachy waves or a simple chignon.

Casual Attire

Casual attire is laid back wedding attire. There is still some dressing up to do, just much less formally. Wear sundresses, relaxed maxi dresses, or a skirt and blouse. Subtle accessories are fine.

What to do when the invitation is vague?

When the invitation doesn’t mention the dress code, there are a few clues to follow to gauge how to dress. First, how fancy is the invitation? The invite is a good clue as to the formality of the coming event. If the invitation is very formal, consider black tie or cocktail attire. A more casual invitation means less formal.

Second, with a bit of investigation about the venue, you can also gauge how dressy to get. Where will the wedding be held? Use the venue space as an indicator.

The Art of Self-Confidence: How Does Confidence Affect Your Image?

January 15, 2020 Melrose Fisher Fashion, How To, Image, Style Tips

It’s true: confident women are better at most everything. Confident people attract more support from others, tend to be effortlessly graceful, and are even more successful. It’s easy to see that confidence can get you ahead. Simply put, confidence attracts more than insecurity does. Feeling good about yourself can help you level up in all areas of life.

Exuding more confidence can change your image in countless ways, but here are a couple of examples.

Self-confidence makes you more attractive

Imagine walking into a room full of people you don’t know. People who are getting to know you for the first time will notice and even feed off of your confidence. Posture is a good indicator of a confident, self-assured person. Stand up tall, keep your head up, and make eye contact with others. A good attitude is another attractive trait of a confident person. Talking to others, asking questions, and engaging in conversation are all attractive traits that will help you come off as an amazingly self-confident woman.

Self-confidence leads to more success

Whether in an interview, casual lunch, or meeting potential clients, self-confident people are more likely to land a new job or client. We know that confidence increases your chances of getting hired or nailing your dream employer. Portraying positive energy and leadership qualities helps you assert your power. When you feel good about yourself and your skills, others will easily feel good about you too!

So, let’s talk about building confidence because we could all use a boost!

Confidence is never about perfection or caring about what others think about you. You don’t have to be perfect to be confident. Let’s be honest, everyone, from everyday women to cat-walking supermodels have insecurities. Confidence is more about being unapologetically you.

Confidence isn’t about impressing others, but more about impressing yourself! Here are a few ways to feel your absolute best, and portray an image of a fearless, happy woman.

Smile more

It’s the simplest way to boost your happiness and feel good. Sharing a smile with others shows them you are approachable and fun to be around. Smiles are contagious.

Eliminate negative self-talk

If we’re working on upping our levels of confidence, use positive words when talking about yourself and your situation. Silence that inner voice that says you aren’t good enough. Optimism and positivity attract more feel-good thoughts.

Invest in your appearance

Confidence comes from within, but it starts with feeling good. How can you start to feel really good? Imagine how good you feel when you buy a new outfit and wear it for the first time. When you look good, you feel good. Simple things like buying a new outfit, getting a haircut, or spritzing on your favorite perfume can be great confidence boosters.

How we express ourselves shows others how we feel about ourselves on the inside. Clothing is one of the easiest ways to express self-confidence, personal style, and the image you want to portray.

Does your wardrobe add to your confidence levels?

Want to increase your charisma with your personal style? Maybe you aim to find clothes that make you feel more luxurious. Or, perhaps, you are looking for clothes that flatter your unique figure. Whatever your wardrobe goals are, building a wardrobe can impact your confidence levels. Looking your best means feeling your best, and putting your best foot forward. If you want to change or improve your self-image, clothes are one of the simplest ways to start!

If you need some direction on where to start, I’m here to help you on your journey. I believe every woman deserves to feel confident and building the right wardrobe can definitely make all of the difference.
